Meet Claudia Mercuri, one of our esteemed 2019 Diploma of Beauty Therapy graduates. She's now working as a Beauty Therapist at Flavour Beauty. We chatted to Claudia about her experience studying with us.
What’s a day in the life of a beauty therapist like?
A day in a life of a beauty therapist is go go go! The minute you step into the salon from the moment you leave there’s always something to do, whether it be seeing clients all day, restocking the salon, taking bookings to tidying up ahead of your next clients arrival.
My favourite part of my day is seeing a smile on my clients faces once I have finished their treatment!
What’s the most important thing when interacting with clients?
The most important thing when interacting with clients is making sure they are happy with their treatment before, during and after.
What’s your favourite aspect of beauty?
My favourite aspect of beauty is being able to make someone feel good about themselves. More specifically, my favourite area of beauty would have to be skin, because I’ve always struggled with my own skin so I want to help others with their own skin struggles!
What were some of the highlights of your year studying with us?
My year studying at The Masters was one of the most fun years I’ve had! They offer so many opportunities, great quality equipment and very knowledgeable and helpful staff! My highlight would definitely have to be the trip we went on at the end of the year to the Peninsula Hot Springs with the whole class and our two educators which was very well deserved by all of us girls.
What did you learn during your time at The Masters that has helped you get to where you are today?
I learned so much, I could go on forever, but I would have to say the best thing I learnt was how to communicate with clients, and my educators really prepared me for a salon environment.
Pam, one of our educators had so much experience and knowledge about beauty and the industry. She really helped me prepare for getting my first job! Pam also made me find my love for skin, I loved listening to her talk about skin she just knew so much and it really opened my eyes and made me love it and hope to be as knowledgeable as her one day!
What were your favourite parts about studying at The Masters?
My favourite part about studying at The Masters, was that it had a hands-on and practical focus which I loved. It was so much easier to learn by completing the practical elements every day.
What advice would you give to students who are thinking about studying at The Masters, or who are just about to start studying at The Masters?
My advice would be to enjoy studying while you are there and take in as much as you can, do as much practical work as you can - that will really help you build your confidence when you start working on clients in a salon.
