When you’re beginning a new course or starting out at a new school, it can be hard to know what to expect. We chatted to Beauty student Olivia about her first week studying a SHB50121 Diploma of Beauty Therapy with us here at The Masters—she told us all about the friends she made, teachers she met, the things she learned, the tricky bits, the good bits, and the moments she won't forget. Read below to find out what her experience was like!
What drew you to The Masters?
I initially found out about The Masters through my high school teachers, who knew I wanted to pursue a creative education and recommended The Masters to me. I knew I wanted to enrol because of how the course was laid out—the units suited exactly what I wanted to do in the future, so I knew I'd be learning exactly what I want to put into practice in my career. I’ve been passionate about Beauty from a very young age and was very excited to find out I could become fully qualified in just a year at The Masters.
How were you feeling in the lead-up to your course and on your first day?
It’s so crazy because now looking back, I was so nervous before I started my course, but as soon as I came to campus and met everyone, I realised there was absolutely no reason to be so nervous! I met amazing friends on the very first day and I am still so close with all of them. The trainers make starting the year very easy as they are all so lovely and made us feel comfortable! I remember being impressed with how beautiful the campus is and being absolutely blown away at how nice all the staff are!
Tell us about your first week at The Masters.
I definitely learned time management! Our instructors really make an effort to lay out all of our assessments and let us know when they’re coming up so we are always prepared. I was nervous at first about the commute because I've never had to commute as far as I do now, but I got the hang of it really quickly. Hands down, the best part about my first week was meeting a bunch of girls and educators who are genuinely nice and caring toward each other. High school was a bit tough for me, so to meet teachers who are so warm and lovely is so amazing to see!
Based on your first week, do you have any advice for future T.M. students?
Try not to be scared on your first day. You’re going to meet wonderful people and have a ton of fun!
