With winter being in full swing, we’re keen to find out all the best ways to care for our lips during the chilly season. Winter is often quite harsh on the skin as the air is dry and cooler temperatures can inflame the skin. Plus, your complexion isn’t soaking up as much vitamin D from the sun since you’re spending so much more time indoors. Seeing as our lips are super delicate, they’re generally more susceptible to winter-induced issues than the rest of our face is. We knew we needed to go straight to some industry experts for their recommendations.

Since being in isolation, we’ve been fighting boredom and keeping up to date with the latest beauty trends through podcasts! One of our favourite poddies at the moment is All Bases Covered, a weekly beauty podcast hosted by makeup and beauty gurus Lauren, Lisa, and Alex.  We chatted to them about their favourite lip product picks this winter. Check out their recommendations below!

Chantecaille Lip Chic in Tea Rose

A sheer, rose-tinted lipstick with a sheeny finish and lots of hydration. Perfect for creating that winter flush on the lips, and works great patted on the cheeks as a cream blush. It’s a ‘no mirror required’ handbag essential!

MAC Matte Lipstick in Diva

A warm, burgundy lipstick that feels wintery without being vampy. This shade looks great on all skin tones. Choosing a matte formula for deeper lipsticks is essential for long wear, so make sure your lips are prepped adequately.

Nars powermatte Lip Pigment in Under My Thumb

This thin liquid lipstick formula is one of the most forgiving matte formulas on dry lips, while having exceptional lasting power. This shade sits halfway between a pink and a berry tone, making it a perfect stepping stone for someone new to a darker lip, or a great choice for someone who thought they owned them all already!

Dermal Therapy Lip Balm

This product is the unsung hero of the lip balm world and it’s under $10! Its lightweight texture is deceiving, as it helps to soften flakey lips practically before your eyes. This product is great for applying before a bold, matte lipstick, and the lightweight consistency means there is less risk of your lipstick bleeding. You can ever keep it in your bag to dab over a matte lip throughout the day to refresh—it can do no wrong!

Urban Decay Lip Liner in Liar

This is a great multi-tasking lip pencil for light to medium skin tones. Liar is the perfect ‘your lips but better’ colour for any nude, berry, or plum toned lip shade. The consistency of these pencils isn’t too dry, nor are they too waxy or slippy, meaning you can wear them under lipstick, on their own coloured all over the lip, or topped with a lip balm—choose your own adventure!
