Our 2019 alumni Malin has joined the M.A.C. Cosmetics team! Malin came to The Masters to study our CUA51015 Diploma of Screen & Media (Specialist Makeup Services) and landed an incredible role less than 6 months after graduating with M.A.C. Cosmetics. She took some time recently to chat with us about her role, inspiration, and her time at The Masters.

What do you do for work right now?

I work as a makeup artist for M.A.C. Cosmetics.

What's your favourite aspect of makeup?

I love how it can change your whole mood for the better. If I'm feeling down, putting on some beautiful makeup usually makes my day better. I also love the creative, artistic side of makeup—the way you can express your feelings and thoughts through makeup really amazes me.

When you're trying out a new makeup look, what inspires you?

I can get inspiration from anyone and anything. Obviously Instagram and other social media platforms are massive platforms to get inspiration from these days, and we're so lucky to be able to find so many talented artists to get inspiration from. If I feel a bit stuck in my own creativity, I like to look for inspiration in nature. Going for a walk outside and trying to take in everything I see really helps me feel inspired.

What did you learn during your time at The Masters that has helped you get to where you are today?

I learned that it takes hard work to make it in a creative industry, and that you never stop learning. I also learned that you have to trust yourself when you're on the job—there's no right or wrong. I loved how at The Masters all the different departments came together and worked side by side on different projects; you get a good understanding of how collaboration works in real life.

What advice would you give to students who are thinking about studying at The Masters?

This is an amazing course that is very focused on actually getting a career in the industry, which I think is great! Just be prepared to work hard.
