How does it feel to be nominated for the Student of the Year award?

Honestly, I felt very shocked when I saw that I was nominated for Student of the Year award. There are so many amazing girls in my class that are so talented at what they do, so I was very surprised when I saw the email. As shocked and as surprised as I was, I am overjoyed and honoured to be nominated for this award.

Can you tell us your favourite memory from studying at The Masters?

Every memory and every moment has been a blast. I would like to say that my favourite memories from studying at The Masters are my friends and trainers. I have gone through some unimaginable situations this year and I was able to open up to my friends and trainers here at The Masters. It always feels like home here and everyone is so close and friendly. This course has opened up so many great opportunities for me whether it's being a part of the Viceta Wang fashion show for Melbourne Fashion Week, working at an amazing salon, meeting and having the greatest connection with your clients. The Masters will always have a special place in my heart.

Why did you choose to study your course?

Growing up, I have always loved make-up and nails and have always explored what I liked and loved. I may not have older sisters that I looked up to growing up, but I did have 2 amazing older cousins. I would always love visiting them as I was their little puppet doll that they would try their new makeup products on and I’m guilty to say that sometimes I did touch their make-up without permission. The older I got the more I explored everything that involved beauty. My dream was to become a makeup artist because not only did I enjoy it, I loved making people feel beautiful and good about themselves.

Not long after finishing 10th grade my dreams got crushed by my parents, not allowing me to pursue my career and had to look at another pathway. Finishing year 12 I looked into nursing and forced myself into liking it but never did. After Covid, I really thought about myself and what I truly loved and it was beauty. A friend from my retail job talked about The Masters and explained all the courses that The Masters held, the events, the team, the glory of the place and I fell in love with her story. So, I was scared to drop out of nursing, but I was brave enough and started my journey with The Masters and I have loved every second of it and I know this is a decision I will never regret.

What have you loved most about your course or time at The Masters?

I'm not sure if saying ‘everything’ is an acceptable answer but I have loved every second and everyday about my course. I got to learn about so many things that I never knew about, meet many new faces that are going to be families forever. The passion, the care and the knowledge of my trainers at The Masters are out of this world. Not only are they here to teach and have impeccable knowledge but they truly care and motivate each and everyone one of us to be the best beauty therapist. Work hard and never give up what we all love and enjoy. There may be stressful and tiring days here at The Masters but I know I will look back and really miss this place.

If you could have a one-on-one mentoring session with a renowned figure in your industry who would it be, and what would you ask them?

I would love to meet Selena Gomez with her brand Rare Beauty and ask, ‘what makes you feel powerful, motivated?’

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

I do see myself still being a beauty therapist in 5 years. I would love to be my own boss but no matter where I am as long as I can make my employer and clients trust me, trust my knowledge, trust my work and trust my love in my career there is nothing more I would want. There are many surprises in the future for many people. Whether that is faith or working hard, life is full of positive surprises.

Beauty student of the year

Do you have any advice for any students who are wanting to excel in your industry?

Do It! Really trust your heart and do it because The Masters has been the best decision ever. It can be challenging, you may feel stressed and tired but that is very normal. It is okay to take a step back, breathe or cry to feel better. There are honestly no words to express how healthy and amazing this place is. There is one thing I want to say about being in the beauty industry, to be in this industry you have to truly love and enjoy it. The reason I say this is because having a connection with your clients is so important, from the minute you meet them, talk to them and let them be in your safe hands, that is when you feel like you have made it.  Allowing clients to trust you is the biggest reward I could ask for.

“It was such a surprising experience to win this award. There are so many talented girls in my class and I felt so honoured. It has really boosted my confidence and will help me in my future pathways for whatever I choose to do in the future”
