What does winning this award mean to you?
As a mature age student returning to study, I was initially concerned about my ability to keep up with the study load and the more tech-savvy younger generation. I've given my best efforts to every assessment/unit I have completed and having my achievements and hard work recognised by Holmes Institute Fashion makes me feel really valued.
When things were tough, how did you stay focused and not give up?
I am quite intrinsically motivated, however, the support and encouragement I receive from my husband, as well as from my classmates and lecturers, sustains my belief in myself to take on new challenges and succeed.
What advice would you give to other students who want to excel in your field?
Ultimately, you will get out what you put in. To stay on the right track, ask many questions in class and ask the lecturers to review your work and provide feedback as much as possible throughout the semester.
What are you currently doing in the industry?
Currently, I work as a Visual Merchandiser for Myer.
Can you share your favourite opportunities or experiences that you had at Holmes Institute Fashion?
Public speaking and live presentations make me incredibly nervous and are absolutely not my strength. However, having had to do this so many times throughout the course, although I hate it, has been very beneficial to me. I am proud of myself for how much I have improved in this area. Also, meeting and collaborating with my classmates has been very cool. We are a very diverse group of people brought together by our common interest in the fashion industry and everyone has a unique perspective and skillset to bring to the table.
The Fashion business outstanding achievement 2023 award is sponsored by The Fabric Store.
