2020 was a tough year for all of us, but we made it through, so give yourself a pat on the back! Now that it’s 2021, it’s time to start fresh and give yourself that well-deserved glow up. And what better way than to change your hairstyle? 2021 is all about retro looks, bringing back the hippie and effortless, shaggy ‘dos of the 70s and 80s. Here are the top 5 hair trends to look out for in 2021….
The Modern Mullet
The mullet is back, and it’s better than ever! This iconic hairstyle from the 80s is back in full force, but with shaggier layers and a little less hair gel, providing a casual, messy, and effortless look. Celebrities like Miley Cyrus, Zendaya, and Alexa Chung will give you all the inspiration you need.
Curtain Bangs
Shaggy, effortless bangs that you don’t even need to style. They frame your face perfectly, just like a curtain does a window. They are softer than the straight across, blunt-cut fringe of yesteryear and their long, wispy, soft ends give a laid back boho vibe. See Chloe Grace Moretz for curtain bang inspo!
Mermaid Waves
Mermaid waves are all the rage right now, especially for summer! And with the launch of the large barrel crimpers by Bondi Boost and Mermade Hair, this majestic look only has to take a few minutes. Finish off with some sea salt spray to achieve those gorgeous bouncy, beachy waves.
Baby bangs
These eyebrow grazing bangs never go out of fashion and are a staple part of the trendy alt look. This mini-fringe is character-making and confidence boosting, bringing attention to the forehead and eyebrow area. Baby bangs can be wavy, blunt, wispy or asymmetrical. No one does them better than YouTuber eve frsr!
Natural Hair
This one is for you curly girls out there—it’s time to embrace your naturally curly hair and give it a break from heat damage and chemical straightening. Afro hair and 4c curls can be difficult to manage and style, but more and more tutorials and products are coming out to help us embrace our natural locks. Don’t know where to start? We love NaturallyCurly, a YouTube channel full of tips, tricks, and product reviews that will help you go from frizz to whiz.
